Ronaldo was the winner of the adidas Golden Shoe for the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan™. The Brazilian finished as top scorer with eight goals, ending a 28-year trend of the most prolific marksman of the finals never scoring more than six goals.

O Fenômeno’s most important goals came in the Final against Germany, where he twice beat goalkeeper Oliver Kahn – crowned Player of the Tournament – to secure Brazil’s fifth world title.

Ronaldo scored in every game for his country up until the 2-1 victory over England in the quarter-finals, including two goals in the 5-2 group victory over Costa Rica. He then secured Germany’s passage to the final with a memorable semi-final goal against Turkey.

Germany striker Miroslav Klose and Ronaldo’s team-mate Rivaldo shared second place with five goals apiece. Ronaldo now has 12 FIFA World Cup finals goals to his name and will have his sights set on German great Gerd Muller’s record of 14 finals goals at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™.
